GEO Helps Metro-North Railroad Get Back on Track

A 1,000 year storm on July 9 caused flash flooding in the Hudson Valley. This significantly impacted a portion of Metro-North Railroad’s (MNR) Hudson Line operations to the point where the train service was suspended on both tracks. As a result, MNR contacted GEO’s Anthony Felicetta in the late hours of Sunday evening and GEO sprung into action!

First, we visited various sites that experienced shallow but extensive soil/rock/debris slides. After assessing the conditions, we worked with MNR engineers and construction personnel to clear the tracks and develop interim measures to protect the tracks. The around-the-clock-action of MNR and GEO’s response allowed MNR to get the trains back on both tracks in less than three days.

GEO will continue to worked with MNR over the next several weeks to develop permanent measures to reduce future impacts to MNR’s infrastructure, with the goal to increase safety and reduce delays.
