After the failure of an existing seawall due to ongoing erosion, GEOMechanics provided emergency response services to enable the contractor to quickly re-support the home to prevent it from falling onto the beach. Later, permanent measures were designed to protect the property in the long-term.
The Solutions Unearthed
- Drilled shafts were installed at either end of the house to support a beam installed below the exposed foundations of the house. We performed the design with a short turnaround time to ensure that construction of this support system could be completed as quickly as possible.
- Assisted the owners with obtaining permission from the State of Oregon to construct a riprap revetment, while simultaneously designing a new tied-back seawall in case permission was not obtained. Ultimately permission was obtained to build the riprap revetment.
