La MaMa Theatre

HELPING RESTORE A CLASSIC

La MaMa Theatre is located in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The building was constructed in 1873 and purchased in 1967 by African-American director and producer Ellen Stewart, who established the theatre as a haven for underrepresented artists to experiment with new work. The building became a New York City Landmark in 2009. GEODesign assisted in the extensive renovation and restoration of the building.

La MaMa Theatre

GEODesign provided geotechnical engineering and support of excavation (SOE) design services for renovation of the La MaMa Theatre. The 4-story landmarked building has housed the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club since 1969. We delivered efficient and cost-effective geotechnical solutions for an extensive and complicated renovation of the nearly 150-year-old building.
