PROJECT OVERVIEW

219 & 235 East 42nd Street

Formerly the location of the Pfizer world headquarters, these two buildings are undergoing major changes in what is being considered the largest office to residential building conversion in New York City history. The proposed renovations included adding up to 19 additional stories to the existing buildings. GEODesign provided geotechnical engineering design and construction phase services for the building renovations.

219 & 235 East 42nd Street

GEODesign provided geotechnical engineering design and construction phase services for the renovation and vertical expansion of two existing buildings. Due to the “7” subway tunnel running below East 42nd Street, permission to perform the borings and test pits inside of the buildings was obtained from the MTA. GEODesign prepared geotechnical reports and provided recommendations for supporting the new, expanded foundations on bedrock and provided a rock anchor design which was required to resist the significant added wind loads. GEODesign also filed the structural and foundation drawings with the MTA, and was retained to perform subgrade and rock anchor special inspections.
